What’s So Important About Targeted Traffic?
September 27th, 2007
Online traffic is just like any other sales traffic — except the customers aren’t very polite. If they don’t see what they like, they’re gone. No goodbyes, no thank yous — just a click of the mouse button.
When someone goes online to buy something, they’re looking for something specific. It’s very rare that someone comes to a site because they’re bored and just want to browse.
Think about it — if you’re looking for some new sheets for your bed, and you click on a search engine result that says “sheets”, don’t you want to go straight to the sheets? Or do you want to wander around some mega-mall trying to find the home and garden section?
Online, when people don’t find what they’re looking for VERY quickly, they’re gone. Just like that. And they’ll never come back. Your site can have all the bright colors and fancy design that money can buy, and it won’t matter. The customer is gone immediately.
That’s why it’s critical that your page is selling something very specific and that your customer for that product lands exactly on the page that’s selling what they want. Everything else about online sales is small in comparison.
BetterVisitors sells targeted traffic so that you can have a good idea what the customer is looking for. It’s up to you design a page so that they know quickly — and I mean within milliseconds — that you have what they’re looking for. Once the customer knows that you have what they want, then the rest of the sales process is just making sure that you don’t scare them away. The bulk of the work is taken care of just by showing them the product they were looking for.
What could scare them away? I’ll be talking about landing page design for more effective sales in a later post, and the important issue of trust.
